A lean site, by design

Cutting the footprint of the road is my trade. This site applies the same logic to the digital side: do more with less. Here are the concrete choices behind how light it is.

No heavy images

The illustrations and icons are vector SVG written into the code (sharp at every size, a few kilobytes) — no heavy photographs to download.

Loaded on demand

Fonts self-hosted and preloaded, scripts deferred, charts loaded only when they come on screen: nothing is downloaded that is not needed.

Cached, and installable

The site works offline and can be added to the home screen; it caches what it needs, so there are fewer round trips on every visit.

Responsible hosting

The site is hosted in France, with a host committed to the energy efficiency of its data centres.

As little data as possible

No advertising cookies and no third-party trackers. Audience measurement is done in-house, without a cookie, and respects privacy.

Kept up, not declared done

Leanness is a direction, not something you acquire: the weight of each page is measured page by page, in a real browser, and the figures are published.
