How are test slots
allocated?

The question still comes in its old wording: "how many slots do I get this month". That is no longer how it works, and plenty of articles online still describe the old system.

The slot goes to the candidate

Since the State introduced online booking of test slots (RdvPermis) — order of 27 April 2021, rolled out everywhere on 1st May 2023 — the slot is allocated to the candidate, no longer to the driving school. The business no longer receives a monthly quota to share out among its pupils: it is the candidate who books the slot.

What has been repealed

The old national allocation method of 2014, with its departmental coefficient, has not been in force since 1st May 2023. If a page you are reading explains how your departmental quota is worked out, it is out of date.

What remains: the booking threshold

One limit per business is still there: how many of your candidates can be waiting for a slot at the same time. That threshold depends on your training capacity — and that capacity is not something you declare, it is worked out from your real activity. That is the subject of the next article: your training capacity, where the figure comes from.

Where this answer comes from — order of 27 April 2021, rolled out everywhere on 1st May 2023.
