You teach
An instructor does not open
a screen: they open their day
Instructor, driving teacher, trainer - employed or self-employed. Between two learners there are four minutes and one free hand. Everything that follows fits into a space of its own, on a phone or a tablet, kept apart from the one management uses.
The day, then the lesson
The entry screen is “My day”: the day's sessions in order, with the learner and the vehicle. Beside it, their schedule, the learners assigned to them and the vehicles they drive.
A lesson is started and then closed. In between, the learner signs with a finger on the screen - once at the start of the session, once at the end - and both signatures stay attached to the lesson as proof of attendance.
The vehicle, without the paperwork
The mileage
Read off from the day in progress, not from a booklet to be dug out of the glovebox. On the management side, the vehicle logbook then says whether it is properly filled in and what has been driven while out of service.
Refuelling
Entered from the lesson, with the amount: the expense is recorded against the vehicle, without going back through the office.
The state of the vehicle
A report can be filed with a photo. A trip through the car wash is noted too - the two things one forgets and then holds against oneself.
The learner's progress
The instructor fills in their skill assessments from their own space, and can draw a diagram - a junction, a manoeuvre - which the learner will then find in their own space. A sketch explained at the kerbside is forgotten; drawn, it stays.
For the practical test, the mock exam is filled in on the official CEPC grid.
The lesson round-up, in three lines
A round-up written cold, three weeks later, is worth nothing. So the interface offers three lines already drafted from the session, to be corrected rather than written - and it keeps the list of sessions from the last three weeks whose round-up is still to be done, the oldest first.
Their leave, their staff file
The instructor looks up their own leave and their own staff documents, without going through the office and without seeing anyone else's.
What does not exist yet, and is not promised
Offline, pages already open stay readable, but a lesson entered during an outage is not kept. Write it down and enter it later. Full offline working is being built; until it is there, it is not announced.
The other two jobs: the office · the manager · the overall view.
Instructors are not counted one by one
The number of learners and instructors never enters into my fees. The supervision interface is made available to you for the whole length of the engagement.
